What Are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are available to anyone over the age of 16 in Wales and allow individuals to secure a real job with training. Learners will work towards a nationally recognised qualification whilst getting paid. Apprenticeships are fully funded, meaning learners, once completed, will be debt free.

Why choose an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to earn and learn at the same time – meaning your young person can both get a nationally recognised qualification and not miss out on earning. Most of an apprentice’s time will be spent in the workplace, with around 20% of their time dedicated to studying.  

All apprentices will have their own Trainer Coach, who will offer one to one support to make sure they succeed. Our blended learning model at Educ8 also means leaners can study online at a time that suits them.  

Apprentice’s will train in a field they want to work in, growing their career from day one, they’ll gain valuable experience, enhancing their employability and get a crucial first step on the career ladder. All apprentice’s will get holiday pay, and in some case study leave, and on completion will be debt free.

What Apprenticeships are available?  

Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of sectors, from Digital Marketing to Advice and Guidance. What’s more Apprenticeships start at Foundation and go all the way up to Higher Levels, meaning there’s anApprenticeship for any learner, at any stage of their career, whether they’ve just left school, didn’t quite get the grades they were looking for or have just completed their degree.  

What you can do as a parent?

Setting off on a career path can be overwhelming for young people. As their parent, guardian or carer, you'll play a key role in guiding them as they take their next step.

• Help them find and apply for an Apprenticeship.

• Research together.
  Encourage your child to research the sector they want to work in, the company and the job role they’re applying for. Have them look at their hobbies and link these to key skills, for e.g. if they enjoy football this means they’re a team player, if gaming is their thing this demonstrates that they’re adept at using, and keeping apace with, technology and are committed to achieving a set goal. • Be honest: work is hard
  Empathise with your child as they start what may be their first full-time job.
• Help them to see the bigger picture
  Remind them that the journey they are on may sometimes feel like a long one, but it will provide them with great options for progression once they are qualified.
• Ask them about their day: get involved
  Take an interest in what your child is doing and ask them to demonstrate if they can.  Make an effort to have conversations with them about how they are finding the job and their learning experiences.
• Discover when exams and assignments are due  so that you can be as supportive as possible.
